Computers for Schools- Nova Scotia (CFS-NS) gathers all surplus computer equipment, software and accessories made available through governments, businesses and individuals for refurbishing and distribution to the education community of Nova Scotia.

CFS-NS allocates a portion of the refurbished computers and accessories distributed each year to the Nova Scotia Public School System. Public schools can apply for computers through their School Board. Each board receives a proportion of refurbished computers based on its student population. Any requests for computers provided by the CFS-NS to public schools should be referred to the appropriate School Board contact person below. For 2011/2012 Public Schools are receiving 96% of the computer allocation.
CFS-NS allocates a portion of the refurbished computers and accessories distributed each year to Private Schools in Nova Scotia. For the purposes of distribution, private schools in the Province are collectively considered to be one school board. The quantity of computers, accessories, and other technology is designated in proportion to the total private schools enrolment, when compared to the public schools enrolment. Requests for equipment, by letter, must be made to the CFS-NS Steering Committee for review and approval. For 2011/2012 Private Schools are receiving 2% of the computer allocation.
CFS-NS allocates a portion of the refurbished computers and accessories distributed each year to Public Libraries. The Provincial Library coordinates the distribution to the individual libraries. If you are a Library looking for computers please email Chuck Hubbard at hubbarca@gov.ns.ca or phone (902) 424-2475. For 2011/2012 Regional Public Libraries are receiving 100 computers.
CFS-NS allocates a portion of the refurbished computers and accessories distributed each year to Literacy Nova Scotia. If you are interested in receiving computers through Literacy Nova Scotia please call Jayne Hunter at (902) 897-2444. For 2011/2012 Literacy Nova Scotia is receiving 65 computers.
CFS-NS allocates a portion of the refurbished computers and accessories distributed each year to First Nation Schools. Interested schools may apply for computers through the Atlantic Canada's First Nation Help Desk. The Help Desk receives a proportion of refurbished computers. Any requests for computers provided by the CFS-NS to First Nations Schools should be referred to the Atlantic Canada's First Nation Help Desk located at 115 Membertou Street, Sydney, NS B1S 2M9 or via phone at 1-877-484-7606. For 2011/2012 First Nations Schools are receiving 2% of the computer allocation.
CFS-NS allocates a portion of the refurbished computers and accessories distributed each year to Nova Scotia C@P Sites. If you are a C@P Site interested in receiving computers please email Joanne Gidney at gidneyje@gov.ns.ca or phone (902) 424-4660. For 2011/2012 Nova Scotia C@P Sites are eligible to receive 100 computers.
Requests for equipment, by letter, must be made to the CFS-NS Steering Committee for review and approval. Only those groups that are focusing on retraining and educational upgrades will be considered for equipment.
